Sam Donaldson, an ABC News Correspondent/Anchor from October 1967 to the present, was diagnosed with Melanoma Stage III in August of 1995. In 1996, Donaldson and his ABC colleague Judd Rose wrote and produced an hour long ABC News prime time documentary titled "Cancer in the Family." In 1998, Donaldson and ABC's Cokie Roberts were co-masters of ceremony for a March on Washington held on the national mall that brought thousands of cancer families to the Capital to lobby for increased Federal funding for the National Cancer Institute (NCI). In 1998, Donaldson along with others testified before Congress in support of additional Federal funding for NCI.
In 2002, Donaldson was named the founding Chairman of the Advisory Board of the F. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. He remains on the Board as the Chair Emeritus. In 2010, Donaldson was named the founding Chairman of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Foundation, a post he holds today.
